The Chinese arrived very quietly at the British International Motor Show, in the shape of the electric Quiet Car 1 and Quiet Car 2.

While I really wanted to love these Chinese-sourced, British-assembled ecomobiles, they seem hugely expensive (£9,995 for the 1 and £12,995 for the 2) and limited in their abilities.

Top speed is 50mph and battery range is a meagre 62 miles.

The build quality doesn't look bad, but their safety is terrifying, with no threepoint seatbelts and a bonnet full of batteries for front impact protection.

I wouldn't sell the Prius quite yet.
