Shanghai, August 1 (Gasgoo.com) Shanghai GM, a joint venture between General Motors and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC), has halted production of Buick Regal because of sluggish sales.

Sales figure from China Passenger Car Association shows that only 3,791 Buick Regal cars were sold in the first half, down 55 percent from the same period last year. For the month of June the automaker didn't sell even one unit of the model.

Monthly sales of Buick Regal once reached 7,500 units when the model was first introduced to China in 2003 but, five years after launch, its glory has finally come to the end.

In contrast to the slow sales of Regal, another Buick brand, the Build Lacrosse, is selling like hot cakes in China's market with 29,437 units sold.

In February Shanghai GM also stopped production of its Chevrolet Sail model and is reported to replace it with Opel Corsa.
