“Mask producer” SAIC-GM-Wuling starts producing mask-production machine
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW), a joint venture formed by General Motors and two Chinese automakers, recently earned many “likes” by donating its self-produced masks to the front line combating coronavirus. Now, the automaker has been involved in manufacturing the machine that outputs masks.
On Feb. 19, the joint venture announced via a social media platform that its first homegrown mask-production machine has rolled off the assembly line. The equipment is expected to help boost the daily outputs of Wuling-branded masks.
The latest move made SGMW become the first automaker in China that produces both masks and mask-production facility. The company said on Feb. 13 its first batch of self-made facial masks had come off the production line. Just like the tagline written on mask boxes says, “Wuling will produce everything what people are in need of.”
Thanks to the joint efforts of over 120 experts and technicians working around the clock, it took SGMW only 76 hours to launch the significant machine, versus 10 days usually demanded.
The automaker said it is able to complete an all-new production line per day, and aims to consummate 15 fully automatic line by the end of Feb., so as to vigorously enhance the mask capacity.
Another inspiring news is that SGMW handed over on Feb. 20 the first batch of self-developed smart mobile temperature measuring vehicles to Liuzhou government. Boasting short car body and outstanding maneuverability, the Baojun-branded NEVs are used to measure body temperature of crowds by virtue of AI detection system and infrared body temperature measuring system (photo source: Baojun's WeChat account).
