Parts supplier Joyson Electronics works as crossover mask producer

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Joyson Electronics, a Ningbo-based auto component supplier, has also joined the expanding string of auto companies which have produced medical supplies for the epidemic prevention and control, even though it sounds far away from their profession.

PIA Automation, a subsidiary of Joyson Electronics, bought from a Fenghua-based company two obsolete production lines, which were afterwards reassembled at a HUD workshop of Joyson Electronics.

The reborn assembly lines have now been put into operation to mass produce disposable medical masks. The parts supplier said via its WeChat account the workshop is built in accordance with the cleaning standard normally demanded for electronics workshops, boasting both personnel and product air showers.

Although the facilities are promptly prepared, the final outputs cannot be achieved without raw material. Devoid of relevant supply chain, the crossover mask producer must make parallel efforts to source raw materials like non-woven and melt-blown fabrics. As the demand was much more than the supply, while most suppliers hadn't restarted operation, the companies often failed to get the goods as much as the deal agreed in the early stage.

The turnaround came along with suppliers’ business resumption and the supports from the government. With the supply of raw material getting stable, a line is able to produce 70,000 to 100,000 units of mask per day. Moreover, the combined daily outputs are expected to reach 140,000 units when both lines can work around the clock.

Leveraging the capacity in smart manufacturing & design and operation, Joyson Electronics is dashing all its might in the R&D of an all-new fully automatic mask-producing line, which is expected to be delivered at the end of Feb.
