Shanghai unveils second batch of public roads for ICV tests
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Shanghai unveiled its second batch of public roads for the ICV (Intelligent-connected vehicle) road tests at the 2018 World Autonomous Vehicle Ecosystem Conference on September 18.
There are a total of 12 public roads that will be used for ICV testing, covering the urban arterial roads, the urban secondary trunk roads and the industrial park's arterial roads. Up until now, Shanghai has extended the length of roads for ICV tests from 5.6km to 37.2km.
Shanghai has been acting as a pioneer in ICV development in China. Hot on the heels of Beijing, Shanghai became the second city in China to issue road testing regulations for self-driving cars on February 28 this year.
Since Shanghai issued China's first batch of ICV road test licenses from March 1, a total of 3 automakers, namely, SAIC Motor, NIO and BMW, have by far been given go-ahead to test their autonomous vehicles on public roads. The three auto companies have accumulated over 100,000 km of road tests with no traffic accident.
