Great Wall Motor, JD.com team up on smart home, delivery-to-vehicle

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Great Wall Motor (GWM) and Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com announced a partnership on December 4, which focuses on two major businesses—the smart home and delivery-to-vehicle, according to the automaker's official WeChat account.

The cooperation will allow the smart home application to be used in GWM-owned WEY branded vehicles first, and be applied in Haval and ORA models afterwards.

The smart home application has two functional modules. The first is the "controlling vehicle from home" that makes GWM's car owners check and manage their vehicles' status via JD.com's DingDong smart speaker system, including turning on/off vehicle's air conditioner, unlocking car door as well as checking the balance of mileage, fuel oil and electricity. Using JD.com's smart speaker, car owners can remotely activate engines and turn on air conditioner to preheat their vehicles at home in freezing winter days.  

The other module is the "controlling home from vehicle". By connecting smart home facilities with a vehicle, users are able to check and control various intelligent household facilities, such as air purifier, electric cooker, air conditioner, floor mopping robot, lamps and sockets via the in-vehicle smart voice assistant or touch control system when they are driving home.

In addition, the "delivery-to-home" cooperation will create a bridge between GWM's ICV (intelligent-connect vehicle) platform and JD.com's express service platform. After installing the "delivery-to-home" application on GWM vehicles' trunks, the e-commerce operator's couriers can pinpoint consignees' vehicles using the car-searing function and are allowed to open trunks after get the authorization and finally put goods into trunks even if car owners are not on spot.
