EV startup WM Motor to build autonomous driving tech hub in Sichuan
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- WM Motor plans to establish an autonomous driving technology hub in Mianyang, Sichuan Province, to form a closed loop that covers the entire process from R&D to mass production and speed up the mass production of autonomous driving R&D achievements, the EV startup announced on March 27.
At the same time, WM Motor officially launched the Living Pilot intelligent travel assistance system as well. Co-developed by the startup and Bosch, the Living Pilot is capable of L2 intelligent driving assistance function and its mass-produced version will be applied in the WM EX5, which is about to hit the market on April 12.
The Mianyang-based autonomous driving hub will be interconnected with WM Motor's AI research institute located in Silicon Valley and global R&D headquarters in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province, to joint constitute the EV maker’s industrial deployment integrating autonomous driving R&D and testing.
Besides, WM Motor will join hands with Mianyang's local government to build West China's first open highway pilot section for autonomous driving to promote the city's high-tech industry development.
To strengthen its presence in intelligent vehicle domain, WM Motor teamed up with Chinese Internet giant Baidu in January to co-build and co-operate the “WM Motor & Baidu Apollo Intelligent Vehicle Joint Research Center” for the R&D of L3/L4 autonomous driving solutions. The Internet company will conduct joint R&D and tests for such functions as automated valet parking and high-speed autonomous driving this year using WM Motor's vehicles.
