Former Didi’s Head of AR joins self-driving startup WeRide

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Jason Xu, former director of Augmented Reality of China's ride-hailing giant Didi Chuxing, has joined WeRide.ai, an autonomous driving startup previously known as Jingchi.ai, according to the startup's press release.

Mr. Xu boasts outstanding R&D ability and over 10-year technical management experience in computer vision and AI fields. He joined WeRide as Executive Director of HD Map and Localization, building HD map and positioning technical solutions with high accuracy, high reliability and scalability for the startup.

Right before joining WeRide, Mr. Xu held a crucial position at Didi as Head of Augmented Reality (AR), leading a R&D team dedicated to exploring the cutting-edge applications of AR in intelligent vehicles, and achieved industry leading performance in visual recognition and localization.

Prior to Didi, Mr. Xu was the Senior Director in charge of visual recognition R&D and AI strategies at Blippar, an AR advertising and visual discovery platform. Before that, he worked as the director of Sony Research's computational intelligence lab in Silicon Valley.

Mr. Xu has developed technology groups starting from scratch for several times. He makes wide researches in such frontier areas as computer vision, deep learning and picture/video processing and is good at transforming AI technologies in labs into practical applications for actual industrial scenarios.
