China’s first national-level IoV pilot zone unveiled in Wuxi

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Jiangsu (Wuxi) Internet of Vehicles Pilot Zone, the first national-level IoV pioneer zone in China, was officially unveiled several days ago, marking another milestone for the city's development of IoV industry.

The Wuxi IoV pilot zone will be committed to putting C-V2X (cellular vehicle-to-everything) network and RSU (road side unit) into large scale use, assembling car-borne terminals in a certain scale, revamping the IoV functions and improving core system abilities for the traffic infrastructures in key regions, and enriching the IoV application scenarios, according to local media reports.

Supported by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), Jiangsu Provincial government started to build the Wuxi IoV pilot zone in early May, joining forces with a number of enterprises and institutes, such as China Mobile, Huawei, Wuxi Smart City Development Co.,Ltd, Traffic Management Research Institute of the Ministry of Public Security,  Jiangsu Tianan Smart Science & Technology Co.,Ltd and the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology.

According to an implementation plan recently issued by the Industry and Information Technology Department of Jiangsu, by the end of the year, Wuxi plans to complete the construction of a 6-square-kilometer core application area for C-V2X. Besides, areas in the city covered by V2X network will be extended to 260 square kilometers from the current 170 square kilometers.

China's MIIT issued the Internet of Vehicle (Intelligent-connected vehicle) Industrial Development Action Plan (hereinafter referred to as the Plan) on December 27 to further promote the sound growth of IoV industry.

In accordance with the Plan, the IoV (ICV) industry should make breakthroughs in crossover industrial integration by 2020 and have the ICVs with high-level autonomous driving functions to be used on a certain scale under specific scenarios.

What’s more, China targeted to achieve more than 30% penetration rates in both Internet of Vehicles (IoV), or telematics, and Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) on new vehicles by 2020, according to the Plan.
