Shanghai (Gasgoo)- China has recently initiated the project of formulating technical requirements on vehicle positioning based on satellite-based (SBAS) and ground-based augmentation systems (GBAS), trying to make the industry have standards to abide by in hammering out and testing auto positioning solutions.

The project is led by Qianxun SI, a leading Chinese high-precision positioning service provider, and involves a number of tech firms, OEMs and research institutions such as Huawei, Alibaba, NavInfo, FAW Group and Tsinghua University, according to local media reports.

Autonomous driving is dependent on highly accurate, reliable and safe auto positioning technologies. However, the systematic standard related to SBAS- or GBAS-based vehicle positioning has not been established in China yet. Qianxun SI will join hands with industrial partners to develop systematic technical requirements about SBAS- and GBAS- car positioning applicable to automotive industry by analyzing existing standards and researching the performance requirements on high-precision auto positioning.

Founded in August, 2015, Qianxun SI is a joint venture between Norinco Group and Alibaba Group. Based on raw observation data delivered by four GNSS (global navigation satellite system) constellations (including Beidou, GPS, GLONASS and Galileo), it provides high-precision positioning and relevant LBS (location based service) solutions for users across China, according to the company's self-introduction.

Qianxun SI has formed partnerships with such OEMs as FAW's Hongqi and Human Horizons. It is said that the Hongqi-branded model that carries Qianxun SI’s lane-level positioning solution is scheduled to hit the market in 2020.

Besides, another significant standard to autonomous driving field, namely, China's self-owned taxonomy related to driving automation for vehicles, has been recently approved by the National Technical Committee of Auto Standardization, and is set to be launched in 2020. The formulation of the standard is led by Changan Automobile and China Automotive Technology & Research Center (CATARC) (photo source: Qianxun SI's WeChat account).
