Alibaba Cloud teams up with leading auto engineering institute on smart manufacturing solution for auto industry

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Alibaba Cloud announced on July 17 the strategic partnership it forged with MMI Planning & Engineering Institute IX Co.,Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “the 9th”) as the two companies plan to jointly offer the integrated smart factory solution for automotive industry.

“By leveraging respective advantages in R&D, technology and other businesses, we will make joint efforts to help build world-class intelligent factories with independent R&D capability, and promote the transition and upgrading of China's automotive and manufacturing industries,” said Li Qiang, vice president of Alibaba Cloud.

Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing and data intelligence arm of Alibaba Group, will work with the 9th to develop a whole set of intelligent manufacturing solutions for automotive factory by virtue of its merits and resources in cloud computing, data technology, IoT (Internet of Things) and AI, etc.

The first phase of the cooperative project involves an intelligent workshop management and control platform featuring the data collection capability of manufacturing facilities with millisecond level accuracy. With the assistance of Alibaba Cloud's data center, the data of manpower, machine, material, method and environment can be displayed in real time in the form of 3D visualization, which will facilitate operators to better control and maintain their facilities, so as to improving a workshop's overall operational efficiency.

Founded in 1958, the 9th is China's first factory engaged in planning, design and construction of the engineering design and research institute of China auto industry. Its clients extend to cover FAW Group, Geely, Beijing Benz and Tesla.

“The strategic collaboration with Alibaba Cloud will help us elevate the capability of intelligent data development and offer automakers more complete intelligent factory solutions,” said Liu Shixin, general manager of the 9th.

Moreover, two parties will team up on developing a cloud-based intelligent manufacturing platform for automotive industry, and the planning of a joint laboratory focusing on automotive smart manufacturing is also underway (photo source: Alibaba Cloud).
