Horizon Robotics to team up with FAW’s ICV tech development arm on ADAS, high-level driving automation

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Horizon Robotics, a leading Chinese AI chip designer, and the intelligent connectivity technology development arm of China First Automobile Co., Ltd. (called “FAW's ICV tech development arm” for short) forged on August 18 a strategic partnership for the in-depth cooperation on ADAS, high level of driving automation and intelligent automobile cockpit, according to a posting on Horizon Robotics' WeChat account.

Under the agreement, the chip maker will offer the FAW's tech arm such technologies and products as the Journey intelligent driving processors, the Matrix autonomous driving computing platform, the visual perception algorithm, the intelligent cockpit-related technologies and the crowdsourcing HD maps and positioning technology by leveraging its core advantages of automotive-grade AI chips, AI algorithm and the AI open platform “Horizon OpenExplorer™ Platform”.

The joint technical products will be applied in FAW's Hongqi-branded cars in the first place.

Horizon Robotics said the partner it newly signed up is FAW's core R&D department dedicated to developing ICV-related technologies and products for Hongqi brand.

Around a month ago, Horizon Robotics inked an agreement with FAW (Nanjing) Technology Development (called “FAW Nanjing” for short”) to carry out the strategic cooperation in such areas as auto-related AI, sensing technologies, ADAS, high-level autonomous driving, intelligent interaction and SDV (software-defined vehicle).

Both parties plan to jointly develop an in-memory computing platform by making use of FAW Nanjing's leading technologies and development experience in automobile manufacturing field and Horizon Robotics' strengths in developing automotive-grade AI chips and sensing software & algorithm. They will focus on the in-depth joint development of the ADAS and the high-level autonomous driving applications, which are set to be used for the mass production of FAW's Hongqi-branded vehicles as well.

Horizon Robotics, serving as a Chinese leading provider of edge AI chips, boasts the advanced capabilities in designing AI algorithm and chips. The company launched last year the Journey 2, which is known as China's first automotive-grade AI chip and has been put into volume production.
