GAC Aion’s 5G-enabled Aion V comes off assembly line

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On Dec. 24, GAC Aion, GAC Group's new energy vehicle (NEV) subsidiary, saw an Aion V all-electric SUV equipped with 5G and V2X (vehicle-to-everything) modules rolled off the production line, indicating the birth of the world's first 5G-enabled mass-produced model.

According to GAC Aion, the Aion V is armed with the GAC's self-developed 5G & V2X intelligent in-car communications system and the world's first automotive-grade 5G module, the “MH5000”, which rides on Huawei's new-generation Balong 5000 5G chipset.

The company said 5G technology promises advantages of high speed, low latency and wide connection. It can transmit data around 100 times faster than that of 4G, while offers 50 times lower latency than 4G.

By virtue of 5G and V2X technologies, the Aion V will be available for the real-time connectivity among vehicles, traffic infrastructures, drivers, pedestrians and cloud, and can be applied in various Level 4 intelligent driving scenarios, said GAC Aion. Its smart cockpit supports AR/VR ultra-definition online video and is paired with intelligent voice interactive system. Moreover, using 5G technology, an OTA upgrade is expected to be completed within a few seconds.

The 5G-powered Aion V is capable of connecting the monitoring system within and without the car, upload and download high-definition map data in real time, and achieve smart emotion recognition.

With the V2X technology continuously evolving, such functions as vehicle connectivity, AR video call, VR remote driving and autonomous driving formation will be realized in the future, said GAC Aion.
