NGP-powered Xpeng P7s runs over 1 million kilometers in 25 days

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Xpeng Motors announced its P7 all-electric coupes using Navigation Guided Pilot (NGP) highway autonomous driving solution had run 1,023,884 kilometers as of eight o'clock p.m. on February 20, 2021, only 25 days after the function's public test version was released to the public.

The startup said it took NGP's users 15 days to accumulate driving distance of 500,000 kilometers, and completed next 500,000-km range within only 11 days, reflecting users' growing acceptance of the function.

As a key part of Xpeng's XPILOT 3.0 autonomous driving package, the NGP's public test version was launched to consumers in China on Jan. 26. Powered by the NGP, vehicles are available for point-to-point navigation assisted autonomous driving based on the navigation route set by the driver.

The NGP was first applied in the premium version of the Xpeng P7 with the XPILOT 3.0 system. Currently, the P7 is China’s only mass-produced car with 360-degree dual camera and radar fusion perception system for enhance safety, said Xpeng Motors. The function makes highway driving a safer, smoother, easier and more pleasant experience by automatically performing speed limit adjustment, automatic switching to highways, optimized lane choices, automatic entering and exiting ramps, and automatic overtaking.

The company also notes the NGP solution is tailor-made for China's complex driving environment. It can identify and avoid traffic cones, warn of difficult situations such as construction sites or road toll entrances, follow on automatically in traffic jams, avoid breakdown vehicles, change lanes to avoid emergencies, avoid large trucks, and warn drivers of when to resume manual control in dangerous situations such as adverse weather or road accidents.

Xpeng Motor announced in late January it would be the world's first automaker to deploy Amap's 3rd-generation in-car navigation system. The Amap's navigation information was integrated with its NGP function, not only providing the driver with a clearer SR (surrounding reality) 3D rendering display, but also assisting drivers with decision making.
