As the first automaker to mass produce and implement C-V2X system, six of Ford-branded vehicle models are already adaptive to its C-V2X system, enabling human-car-city connectivity and interaction in areas covered by the system.

Ford’s C-V2X system covers nearly 100 intersections in Xi’an’s Weiyang District and Yanta District, initially. Ford said that it will branch out to more areas in the city in the future. Ford vehicle owners can connect to the local intelligent transportation system by OTA updates instead of installing additional hardware.

Notably, the vehicle-road-cloud mutual connection technology is supported by Cennavi, a subsidiary of China’s NavInfo.

Currently, Ford China has developed six essential C-V2X functions, including traffic signal data-push, green wave vehicle speed, greenlight start notice, redlight alert, road information broadcast, and digital road signs. The set of functions are implemented onto the new-generation Mondeo, F-150 Raptor, EVOS, Mustang Mach-E, Edge Plus, and the new Explorer.
