Summary: Best-selling passenger automobile models in the Chinese market in February
A total of 1.58 million new passenger automobiles were sold in China in the month of February. The figure represents growth of 20.1% from last February, when 1.32 million automobiles were sold. The SAIC-GM-Wuling Hongguang continues to lead the passenger automobile sales charts, with its sales exceeding 41,000 units. In second place was Great Wall’s popular Haval H2, whose sales totaled 33,700 units. Other strongly-performing models included the Buick Excelle and VW Lavida.
The sedan market experienced steady growth, with its sales increasing 14.6% year-on-year to 767,000 units. This was good news following January, when sales slightly fell year-on-year. The Buick Excelle leads the charts with sales of 30,500 units, representing year-on-year growth of 51.3%. On the other hand, the VW Lavida, which managed to accumulate sales of 30,000 units, saw its sales decrease 26.6%. In third place was Toyota Corolla, sales of which totaled 26,500 units, representing year-on-year growth of 57.1%.
The Geely Emgrand EC7 was the best-performing own brand sedan model of the month, ranking sixth in the sales charts. The newly introduced Baojun 310 also performed strongly, with its monthly sales exceeding 16,000 units. Another own brand model, the Geely Vision, managed strong sales of 14,200 units, representing year-on-year growth of 69.1%.
A total of 67,600 SUVs were sold in February, up a full 41.6% year-on-year. That figure made up for a slight dip in sales growth the segment suffered in January. The Great Wall Haval H6 remains the best-selling SUV in the monthly charts, with a total 33,700 units sold; that figure represents slight year-on-year growth of 1.9%. Great Wall’s Haval H2 ranked second, with 25,100 models sold. In third place was the GAC Trumpchi GS4, sales of which totaled 24,200 units, up 61.0% year-on-year.
MPV sales fell 17.4% in February; while this was a decrease, it was still better than previous months. A total 14,500 MPVs were sold in February. Own brands continue to dominate the MPV market, with nine of the best-selling models being domestically made. Behind the Hongguang was the Baojun 730 and Changan Honor, whose sales totaled 23,000 units and 13,000 units, respectively; both models saw their sales fall over 20% year-on-year. The Changan Oushang performed strongly, with monthly sales totaling 10,200 units. The best-selling foreign brand MPV was the Buick GL8, whose sales totaled 5,100 units, up 34.9% year-on-year.
