BYD secures 50% market share in Britain's battery electric bus segment
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- BYD has secured over 50 percent market share in the Britain’s bus market and even 90 percent in London’s bus market, Wang Chuanfu said at the establishment meeting of China-UK Entrepreneur Committee.
With many participants from star enterprises, the committee is to promote the development in trade and investment of both countries. BYD and Huawei are the only two private companies at the meeting.
London has demanding requirements for buses in terms of the interior, exterior, color and the appearance. At the same time, they didn’t believe a Chinese company could build an advanced and futuristic bus for London. But all doubts and distrust dispersed after the Transport for London surveyed the assembly factory and battery factory of BYD.
BYD’s red battery electric buses started to run on London’s streets on December 18, 2013, when battery electric buses were relatively new around the global. Ever since then, BYD has made a thriving development in London. By the end of last year, BYD battery electric buses have gained over 90 percent shares in London bus market, becoming the largest battery electric bus fleet in Europe.
The sales of BYD battery electric buses have been No.1 for four consecutive years. Up to now, BYD has delivered a total of 35,000 battery electric buses to global partners. Currently, BYD electric vehicles are running in over 60 cities such as Armstrong, Turin, Copenhagen, Oslo and Madrid.
