Passenger Plug-In EV Car Sales In Europe In Q1 2019 By Country

According to new registration data from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association for most of the countries in the European Union plus EFTA (Norway + Switzerland), the plug-in electric car market is growing at a healthy pace.

During the first quarter of 2019, some 126,885 new passenger plug-in cars were registered, which is 41.2% more than a year ago, at close to 3.1% market share (compared to 2.1% year earlier).

Such results were noted when the general car market decreased by 3.2% to 4,146,152, while the conventional hybrids increased 32.9% to 192,087.

Plug-ins by category:

• BEVs – 83,676 (up 87.5%) at 2% share

• PHEV – 43,209 (down 4.5%) at 1% share

The top six markets by volume in Q1 2019 accounted for some 97,323 or almost 77% of total sales:

• Norway – 23,405 (up 44.6%)

• Germany – 23,326 (up 32.7%)

• UK – 14,579 (up 2.9%)

• France – 14,503 (up 33.0%)

• Netherlands – 11,704 (up 110%)

• Sweden – 9,806 (up 61.5%)
