NIO likely to roll out ES8’s new variant with 400kw drive system

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- EV startup NIO filed an application for new powertrain version of the ES8, according to the information released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The new variant features 400kw-power electric drive system, 80kw lower than that of the current ES8. The new system may help reduce its energy consumption while increase the range.

According to the filing, the new model adopts the same dual-motor drive system as the current one. But the maximum output of one motor falls to 160kw (218Ps) while the other remains 240kW (326Ps). The car still boasts a top speed of 200km/h despite the power decline. In addition, two more kinds of tire sizes, 255/55 R20 and 265/45 R21, will be provided, apart from the current one, 255/55 R19. 

Besides, HYCAN, the EV brand under the joint venture GAC NIO, is set to unveil its first battery-only SUV model on December 27, according to the brand's WeChat account, just a day before the third NIO DAY. The parameters and photos revealed suggest that HYCAN's first model is likely to be positioned slightly below the NIO ES6. In addition, NIO will roll out its third mass-made model, an all-electric coupe SUV, on December 28.
