Shanghai (Gasgoo)- The ID.4, Volkswagen's first mass-produced all-electric SUV, was exposed in patent images from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

The significant BEV model will be produced by FAW-Volkswagen, the German auto giant's joint venture with FAW Group, which saw the body in white rolled off the production line at its Foshan plant last month. Based on the automaker's planning, the ID.4 will be put into the volume production in October and go on sale this year.

The ID.4 concurs in the exterior design of the ID. CROZZ concept, whose first version was presented at the Auto Shanghai 2017. It measures 4,592mm long, 1,852mm wide and 1,629mm tall with a wheelbase that spans 2,765mm, playing in the league of compact SUVs. It will offer tires in four sizes including 235/55 R19, 255/50 R19, 235/50 R20 and 255/45 R20.

According to the MIIT, the ID.4 will be outfitted with an electric motor that pumps out 150kW and is manufactured by Volkswagen Automatic Transmission Tianjinm, which is powered by ternary lithium batteries offered by CATL. The powertrain enables the vehicle to run at a top speed of 160km/h.

The range information doesn't appear in the MIIT's document. Ralf Brandstätter, Chief Operating Officer of the Volkswagen brand said “the outstanding aerodynamics reduce the drag coefficient, and it will boost the ID.4's range to up to 500 km, depending on the drive package.”

The ID.4 is the second production model that rides on Volkswagen's MEB platform, a modular platform particularly design for electric cars. The automaker previously said both the ID.4 and ID.3 represent important milestones in the brand's bid to become entirely carbon-neutral by 2050. Plans have been put in place to reduce the Volkswagen fleet's CO2 emissions by a third by as early as 2025 (ID.4, photo source: MIIT).
