BYD’s Song PLUS series to hit 100,000 units of outputs on September 27

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- The 100,000th vehicle of the BYD Song PLUS series will roll off the production line at BYD’s car manufacturing plant in Xi'an, the capital of China's Shaanxi province, on Sept. 27, the automaker announced via its Weibo account.

The BYD Song PLUS family currently has three versions for sale, namely, the all-electric Song PLUS EV, the plug-in hybrid electric Song PLUS DM-i, and the oil-fueled Song PLUS, which start at 169,800 yuan ($26,260), 146,800 yuan ($22,700), and 115,800 yuan ($17,910) respectively.

The BYD Song PLUS DM-i is one of the three DM-i models BYD put onto the market this year. The vehicle is equipped with the DM-i super hybrid system, which boasts a number of improvements, including less fuel consumption, faster acceleration, and smoother and quitter rides, said the automaker.

“The DM-i hybrid system is a masterpiece of BYD which will play a role as a disruptor of fuel vehicles' supremacy,” said Wang Chuanfu, BYD chairman and president. “It will transform the consumption structure of the Chinese auto market and drive us closer to the dream of clean, green travel.”

The BYD Song PLUS DM-i comes with two variants based on EV-only ranges, namely, 51km and 110km. Their fuel consumptions are 4.4L/100km and 4.5L/100km when batteries run out of electricity.

In August, BYD's new energy vehicle (NEV) insurance registrations reached 50,480 units, according to the China Banking and Insurance Regulatory Commission (CBIRC), making BYD the champion among auto brands in China by monthly registrations of locally-made NEVs.

Of the NEVs registered last month, 24,316 units were contributed by the DM models, namely, PHEVs. Notably, registrations of DM-i models stood at 16,694 units, including 5,176 Song PLUS DM-i SUVs and 11,518 Qin PLUS DM-i sedans.

The BYD Song PLUS EV that adopts Huawei's TZ196XYAP1 electric motor has been included in the MIIT's catalogue. The e-motor supplied by the telecom giant is capable of 123kW of peak torque.
