China adds about 492,000 charging piles in Q1 2022, up 360% YoY
Shanghai (Gasgoo)- By the end of Mar. 2022, there had been 3.109 million charging piles deployed across China, up 73.9% from the same period of last year, according to the China Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Promotion Alliance (EVCIPA).
For the first three months of 2022, around 492,000 charging piles (+360%) were newly built in the country, including 85,000 public piles (+96.5% YoY) and 407,000 private ones (+538.6% YoY).

As of March 2022, the number of public charging piles in the country had added up to 1.232 million, including 502,000 DC piles, 729,000 AC piles, and 485 DC-AC integrated charging piles, the EVCIPA said after compiling the data reported by members of the alliance.
In March, around 19,000 public charging piles were newly deployed last month, representing a 44.8% year-on-year jump.
There were around 32,000 public charging piles newly built per month on average within the year ended March 2022.
In terms of the volume of charging stations by March 2022, the top five provinces or direct-administered municipalities were Guangdong, Jiangsu, Beijing, Zhejiang and Shanghai. Compared to the rankings for the previous month, Beijing climbed two spots to the third place, while Henan replaced Hubei as the occupant of the tenth place.
Regarding the amount of charging stations by March 2022, the top three operators were still TELD, State Grid, and Star Charge. The charging station volume of the No.4 to No.6 operators stood between 4,500 and 7,500. Notably, Potevio appeared in the top 10 rankings for the first time.
The data from the EVCIPA also showed that the EV manufacturer NIO had deployed 792 charging stations by March 2022, 31 more than that of the previous-month period, while Tesla's charging station volume was still 364, indicating no new facility was added last month.
As of March 2022, China had owned a total of 1,451 battery swap stations, 46 of which were newly built last month. By the volume of battery swap stations as of March, the top five provinces or direct-administered municipalities in China were Beijing, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, and Shanghai.
The top three battery swap station operators in China were still NIO (915), Aulton (429), and Hangzhou First Technology (108) in terms of the station volume by March this year.
