Ganfeng Lithium sees remarkable advancement in Chongqing-based solid-state battery project

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- After nearly a year of construction, the first phase of Ganfeng Lithium's new-type lithium battery technology industrial park project, located in Longsheng New City, has topped out 90% of its structures, according to a post on the WeChat account of Chongqing city’s New Area.

The project’s battery pack production line is also set to be commissioned this month, giving a boost to Chongqing's efforts to build a world-class intelligent connected new energy vehicle industry cluster.

This project, with a fixed investment of over 5 billion yuan, is set to be built into the largest solid-state battery production base in China. It officially began construction on July 30, 2022, and includes three sub-projects: a solid-state battery technology research institute, a solid-state battery production base, and a battery pack system production workshop.

The battery pack workshop has already topped out and is currently undergoing interior decoration. It's due to be operational within this month; likewise, the solid-state battery production workshop is set to begin its interior decoration this month, with formal production commencing in January of the following year.

The project manager on the site, Peng Lin, revealed that with the support of Liangjiang New Area’s authorities, the construction of the project’s main building, supporting roads, etc. are all under rapid advancement.

"According to the plan, the entire civil construction of the first phase of the project will be completed this August. The total annual output value of the project will exceed 20 billion yuan, creating over 4,000 new jobs," said Peng Lin.

Peng Lin also disclosed that this project is also the first major solid-state battery project deployed by Jiangxi Ganfeng LiEnergy Technology Co., Ltd. (“Gangfeng LiEnergy”). According to information released by Ganfeng Lithium, the proportion of battery business in its total revenue is growing rapidly, and the lithium battery business has been split into an independent sector, with the capital increase and share expansion already completed.

It's worth mentioning that Gangfeng LiEnergy has also signed a cooperation agreement with SERES Auto. The first batch of the SERES SF5 vehicles equipped with solid-state batteries produced by Ganfeng LiEnergy’s Chongqing project will be delivered to users at the end of this month.

In addition to these efforts, the project will also establish a solid-state battery research and testing center in Liangjiang New Area and attract 800 high-level talents nationwide to focus on improving the energy density of batteries and other core technologies.
