The Thai factory, which took just 16 months from groundbreaking to production, has an annual production capacity of approximately 150,000 vehicles. It includes the four main production process workshops and a components factory. With this development, BYD has become the world's first automaker to reach the milestone of producing 8 million NEVs, with the Dolphin model being the milestone vehicle at the Thai plant.

BYD Chairman and President Wang Chuanfu expressed gratitude to the governments of China and Thailand, as well as to Thai customers and partners, for their support. He noted that BYD's rapid acceptance in the Thai market, having secured the top spot for all-electric vehicle sales for 18 consecutive months, signifies strong market recognition. Currently, one in every three all-electric vehicles sold in Thailand is a BYD model, said the chairman. BYD plans to introduce more battery-electric and plug-in hybrid electric models in Thailand, leveraging the country’s manufacturing capabilities and BYD’s advanced technology to enhance the local automotive industry.

As a global leader in NEVs, BYD has significantly expanded its international presence in recent years. In 2023, BYD's passenger car exports reached 243,000 units, indicating a 337% year-on-year spike. In the first half of this year, BYD sold 1.607 million passenger cars, which jumped 28.8% from a year ago. Among which, over 203,000 units were sold overseas, leaping 173.8% from the previous year.

BYD's NEVs are now available in 88 countries and regions, across more than 400 cities worldwide. In addition to Thailand, BYD has established passenger car production bases in Brazil, Hungary, Uzbekistan, and other countries.
