SGMW rolls off first locally produced MAGIC BATTERY in Indonesia

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- On December 31, 2024, Wuling's first locally produced EV (electric vehicle) battery, the MAGIC BATTERY, successfully rolled off the production line in Indonesia, marking Wuling as the first Chinese automotive brand to achieve local EV battery production in the country, according to a post on SAIC-GM-Wuling ("SGMW")'s WeChat account.

According to the carmaker, the project, from inception to production, was completed in just four and a half months thanks to the efficient collaboration between the Saike Tech-REPT BATTERO and Wuling Indonesia teams. Despite numerous challenges, the installation and commissioning of the battery production line were accomplished in just 15 days. The production line involves a total investment of 40 million yuan.

Wuling entered the Indonesian market in 2017 and has since launched nine popular models, including the Air ev, BinguoEV, and CloudEV. In 2024, Wuling Indonesia retailed 13,492 new energy vehicles, a 27% year-on-year jump. Since the launch of its first NEV model, the Air ev, in Indonesia in 2022, Wuling's cumulative NEV sales have reached 28,768 units, securing a local market share of over 40%.

Additionally, in November 2024, PT SGMW Motor Indonesia celebrated the milestone of producing its 160,000th vehicle, namely, an export-ready CloudEV. At the time, the company stated that this achievement not only marked a significant breakthrough in Wuling brand's seven years of operations in Indonesia but also signaled the beginning of the company's strategy to establish a foothold in Indonesia and expand into global right-hand-drive markets.
