VW assures Chinese consumers that DSG gearbox issue is resolved

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai April 26) - Following an order from China's safety watchdog, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, to recall its trouble-ridden DSG gearboxes, a wave of apologies have come from VW's top staff, including VW CEO Martin Winterkorn and VW China President Jochem Heizmann. According to a report appearing in the Beijing Youth Daily today, VW Board Management Member Ulrich Hackenberg recently acknowledged the issues with the DSG transmissions, while making sure to confirm that issues with the gearboxes have been resolved.

Average wages in the Chinese automobile industry still far behind the US

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai April 19) - Recent statistics from the National Bureau of Statistics show that the average pre-tax salary for workers in the Chinese automobile industry is now at 13.58 yuan ($2.178) per hour, according to a report appearing on auto.163.com today. The salary level is considered average in the overall Chinese manufacturing industry. Furthermore, statistics from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics further reveal that wages in the Chinese manufacturing industry have doubled from 2002 to 2008, while those in the US have only increased by 20 percent. Despite these advances, average wages for workers in the industry in China are just four percent of the average level in the US.
