On 28 March, it is a very special day for Opel dealers. It should be dealer annual conference of GM. However, GM has announced Opel quitting Chinese market before the conference urgently.
Opel quittingChinese market does not because of sales issues. Opel sales in China is about 4 thousand, which is not too many, but compared with Acura Honda and Nissan Infiniti loss situation, Opel profit future in China is not that pessimistic.
According to a dealer of Opel, every Opel profit is as high as 3 thousand dollars. Opel team with less than 10 people creates more than 100 million CNY profit. It is the reason that GM does not willing to delivery Opel to Shanghai- GM Buick team.
However, nobody can stop Opel quitting Chinese market this time. It concerns about GM global strategy. Mary Bora, after replace Dan Akerson, plans to improve profit with more efficiency products. Mary Bora initials brand adjustment includes North America, European and Chinese markets. Opel quitting Chinese market is part of the plan.
Opel sales in China are not impossible to growth, but no matter GM or GM Chinese market cooperator SAIC do not want to develop Opel. Profit of GM is kind of impressive, but Opel marketing is almost 0 investments. All the ads of Opel are by dealers themselves.
GM China does not want to inner fight between Opel and Buick. After Shanghai GM found, it has introduced Korean Daewoo platform, North America Buick Platform and Australia Horton platform. However, because of technology out fashion day by day, it causes sales of Shanghai GM decline in year 2008.
In year 2009, GM adopts “European Technology, Global Platform” strategy. It introduce Opel platform in time, and adjust its modes. It is true that Regal, the new Excelle, Hideo andEnclave which developed based on Opel platform have performed well very.
However, it causes the direct competition between Opel and Buick, such as Regal and Insignia, Excelle XT and Astra. One is imported, and another one is China made, but products are very similar. It acutely causes that sales of Opel is part of market of Buick.
