Car and City: Model Y honored No. 1 PV model in Guangzhou by Feb. 2022 registrations
In February 2022, there were 19,680 locally-made passenger vehicles (PVs) registered in Guangzhou, one of the four top-tier cities in China, representing a 1.9% year-on-year growth, while showing a 61% plunge month-on-month, according to the registrations compiled by Gasgoo Auto Research Institute (GARI).
In terms of Feb. 2022 homemade PV registrations, Guangzhou ranked 8th among cities on the Chinese mainland, dropping four spots from the previous month.
As for ownerships, 86% of Guangzhou's Feb. registrations of China-made PVs were contributed by private users. Besides, a total of 747 cars were registered for car rental service.
Among the top 10 PV brands in Guangzhou by Feb. registrations, three were Japanese ones—Toyota, Honda, and Nissan, which ranked first, second, and ninth respectively. Ranking sixth, Tesla was the unique one with only all-electric vehicles available for sale. As the second runner-up, BYD boasted the largest share of new energy vehicles (NEVs). Both Mercedes-Benz and BMW were on the top 10 brands list with their majority registrations contributed by oil-fueled vehicles.
In the aspect of models, the best-performing PV Model in Guangzhou was an all-electric SUV, the Model Y. Aside from the Tesla-branded one, there were still five NEVs on the top 10 PV models list by Feb. registrations, including two BEVs from AION and three PHEVs from BYD. Notably, GWM's TANK 300 moved up to the runner-up place.
In February 2022, the registrations of homemade new energy passenger vehicles (NEPVs) reached 6,945 units in Guangzhou, sliding 34.5% from a month ago, while surging 138% from the year-ago period. The monthly NEPV registrations were composed of 5,194 battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and 1,751 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), which included 273 range-extended electric vehicles (REEVs).
In terms of Feb. registrations of NEVs in Guangzhou, BYD topped the other PV brands with 1,212 PHEVs and 669 BEVs registered. The runner-up, Trumpchi, was under Guangzhou's local PV maker, GAC Motor. The three leading start-up brands—XPeng, NIO, and Li Auto—ranked 6th to 8th respectively.
Of the 10 best-selling NEPV models in Guangzhou in February, six spots were possessed by all-electric ones. Tesla’s Model Y ranked highest with a significant lead. In addition, BYD's three PHEV models cracked the top 10 rankings, while the Li ONE was the only one from a Chinese NEV startup.
