Tiny Wuling Hongguang MINI EV fits four passengers inside

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- The Wuling Hongguang MINI EV, the first-ever all-electric vehicle of Wuling brand, officially hit the market at the Chengdu Motor Show that kicked off on July 24. Prices of three variants range between only 28,800 yuan ($4,112) and 38,800 yuan ($5,540).

With dimensions of 2,917mm long, 1,493mm wide and 1,621 tall and a wheelbase of 1,940mm, the Hongguang MINI EV is positioned as a four-seater mini-sized car, a bit smaller than its competitor, the Chery eQ1.

The diminutive vehicle adopts a cute exterior appearance. The closed-off grille coupled with squarish taillights and the air intake stretching across the front with the fog lamps on the both sides add volume to the front's personality.

The brevity and power nature of the side profile is highlighted by two parallel character lines and a contrasting floating sunroof.

The spiffy cockpit offers four seats. The carmaker says it took inspiration from Japan's kei cars which are small on the outside yet quite spacious inside.

The rear bench seat is placed where the cargo compartment would have been, which indicates that the MINI EV can either seat four passengers without luggage or two passenger with luggage. This is the trick used to create a “surprisingly roomy” interior, because the rear bench seat can fold flat to add more than 740 liters of cargo space.

The vehicle also offers up to 12 storage compartments, including cup holders. At the rear seat, there are two buckles for child safety seats.

In the powertrain department, the Hongguang MINI EV will feature an electric motor that pumps out 20kW and deliver a peak torque of 85 N·m. The vehicle will consume 16kW·h per 100 kilometers. Powering the vehicle is a 13.82kWh or a 9.2kWh battery pack, which renders NEDC-rated range of 170km and 120km respectively (Wuling Hongguang MINI EV, photo source: SAIC-GM-Wuling).
