Shanghai (Gasgoo)- Chinese leading AI chip developer Horizon Robotics inked on July 23 with FAW (Nanjing) Technology Development (called “FAW Nanjing” for short”) to carry out the strategic cooperation in such areas as auto-related AI, sensing technologies, ADAS, high-level autonomous driving, intelligent interaction and SDV (software-defined vehicle).
Both parties plan to jointly develop an in-memory computing platform by making use of FAW Nanjing's leading technologies and development experience in automobile manufacturing field and Horizon Robotics' strengths in developing automotive-grade AI chips and sensing software & algorithm. They will focus on the in-depth joint development of the ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems) and the high-level autonomous driving applications, which are set to be used for the mass production of FAW's Hongqi-branded vehicles.
As a wholly-owned subsidiary of FAW Group, FAW Nanjing is dedicated to researching and developing the AI-enabled technologies related to autonomous driving, intelligent interaction, big data, intelligent manufacturing, smart logistics as well as smart mobility service by virtue of such technologies as deep learning and data mining.
Horizon Robotics, serving as a Chinese leading provider of edge AI chips, boasts the advanced capabilities in designing AI algorithm and chips. The company launched last year the Journey 2, which is known as China's first automotive-grade AI chip and has been put into volume production. The technology startup plans to unveil the Journey 5 this year that will boast an AI computing power of 96TOPS.
The newly-forged partnership will see two companies conduct deep-going cooperation in AI algorithm and the mass production of China-built automotive-grade AI chips, and draw each other's strength in building a full value chain of AI-powered autonomous driving core technologies.
