Gasgoo Munich- XPENG has debuted a new four-wheel-drive range-extender system on its flagship GX SUV, delivering upgrades across range, power, off-road capability, and quietness. The move aims to provide a comprehensive mobility solution for users across all driving scenarios.
As XPENG's flagship, the GX targets specific user pain points with this new powertrain. It pairs a 63.3 kWh 5C lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery with a 60-liter fuel tank. Combined with an energy-efficient design, the setup eliminates range anxiety on long hauls, bridging the gap between daily commutes and cross-city road trips.

On the performance front, the system utilizes a "4S-class" dual-motor four-wheel-drive setup, with individual motors delivering 465 N·m of torque. Crucially, it maintains robust output even when the battery is low, addressing a common weakness in traditional range-extended vehicles where performance often drops as charge depletes. This ensures consistent power delivery throughout the drive.
The vehicle also boasts off-road capabilities rivaling professional SUVs, backed by a dual-redundancy drive design. This provides an extra layer of safety in complex road conditions or extreme scenarios, enhancing reliability across the board—from city streets and highways to unpaved terrain.
Refining cabin noise, the GX employs ENC and RNC active noise cancellation technology alongside 30 optimized cavity seals. The result is a noise increase of no more than 0.5 dB when the range extender kicks in, delivering a "library-level" quiet experience comparable to pure electric vehicles and significantly boosting ride comfort.
The debut of this new system signals XPENG's deepening push into range-extender technology. Leveraging these four core advantages, the GX is carving out a competitive edge in the high-end family SUV market, offering a choice that balances range, performance, safety, and comfort.
