GM expects China sales to top 3 mln units in 2015

Shanghai, April 12 (Gasgoo.com) General Motors expects to sell more than 3 million vehicles in China in 2015, Kevin Wale, president and managing director for GM's China operations, said today, media reported.

As the largest foreign automaker in China, GM plans to introduce 25 new or updated models in the nation in 2010 and 2011 as it seeks to maintain leadership in the world's biggest auto market, Bloomberg reported today. The models will include the Chevrolet Volt plug-in car in 2011.

Geely Auto '09 profit up 34.5%, eyes '10 sales up 22%

Shanghai, April 12 (Gasgoo.com) Geely Automobile Holdings Ltd. <0175.HK> said its net profit in 2009 rose 34.5% to 1.183 billion yuan ($173 million) and aims for 22% growth in sales this year, though its net income fell 8% in the second half on increased costs, media reported today.

As the listed subsidiary of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group which is buying Ford's Volvo brand, Geely Auto said its 2009 profit was boosted by higher sales and on increased stakes in its operating units. The group injected nearly all its stake in core car-making operations into its listed arm last year.

VW China Q1 sales up 61% to 457,000 units

April 13, 2010 (Earthtimes) German auto giant Volkswagen AG on Monday reported a 61-per-cent surge in vehicle sales in its biggest global market in the first quarter of 2010, forecasting continued strong growth in China for the rest of the year.

Volkswagen Group China said it sold more than 457,000 vehicles to its mainland China and Hong Kong customers from January to March, an increase of 60.9 per cent from the first quarter of 2009.

Geely to display 39 vehicle models at Beijing show

Shanghai, April 13 (Gasgoo.com) On April 9, the highly publicized Geely vehicle line-up for the 2010 Beijing auto show was officially exposed at press conference of the event. It said that the Geely’s line-up will highlight a technology theme, including 39 models, 14 powertrains and 1 simulator.

Audi to expand line-up for China's luxury car sector

Shanghai, April 13 (Gasgoo.com) German carmaker Audi, the luxury division of Volkswagen AG, plans to expand its product line-up for retaining its leadership in the luxury car sector in China, now the world's largest auto market, media reported.

Audi expects to lead China's luxury car market again with sales of 200,000 units in 2010 after selling nearly 160,000 cars last year in its largest overseas market. This year, its first-quarter China sales reached 51,449 units, surging 77% from a year earlier.

Toyota Camry Hybrid car launched in China

Shanghai, April 14 (Gasgoo.com) Toyota Motor has started producing and selling the Camry Hybrid sedan in China via Guangzhou Toyota Motor, its Chinese joint venture with Guangzhou Automobile Group, local media reported.

On April 12, Guangzhou Toyota held a launch ceremony and press conference in Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong province, to mark the beginning of production and sale of the "Camry Hybrid" sedan. About 350 people attended the ceremony, including suppliers, dealers, officials and journalists.

Dongfeng Motor expects chances for overseas M&A

Shanghai, April 14 (Gasgoo.com) China's major automaker Dongfeng Motor Group Co (0489.HK) expects to have opportunities for mergers and acquisitions in the global auto sector that is still reeling from the fallout of the global recession, Reuters reported today.

"The company will closely monitor opportunities for overseas acquisitions," Xu Ping, chairman of the Hong Hong-listed company of Dongfeng Motor Corp, told reporters in a news conference on today.

Chery new-energy vehicles to use Tianneng batteries

Shanghai, April 15 (Gasgoo.com) China's independent automaker Chery Automobile Co. Ltd. will give first priority to using battery products of Tianneng Power International Ltd. when making new-energy vehicles, the two Chinese companies recently announced.

Under their agreement signed in Hong Kong on March 26, Chery Auto and Tianneng Power will cooperate in the highly potential area of new-energy vehicles, including electric-car technology, marketing and after-sales service. BYD F3 leads China Q1 sedan sales at 92,900 units

hanghai, April 15 (Gasgoo.com) China's passenger car sales in the first quarter rose 76% from a year earlier to 3,522,900 units, and the BYD F3 was the top-selling sedan model during the period at 92,900 units, media reported.

Chery Auto Q1 sales up 74.6% to 163,548 vehicles

Shanghai, April 16 (Gasgoo.com) China's leading independent automaker Chery Automobile Co, Ltd. sold a record 163,548 vehicles in the first quarter, up 74.6% from a year earlier, making the company more confident of reaching its sales goal for this year.

The carmaker's first-quarter sales included exports of 16,645 vehicles, a year-on-year surge of 355%. Chery's Q1 exports made up 38% of all Chinese carmakers, which exported a total of 43,876 units in the period, up 123%. Chery had seven models in China's Q1 top 15 most exported car models.

GM to expand lineup of new models in China market

Shanghai, April 16 (Gasgoo.com) General Motors, the largest global automaker in China, plans to introduce 25 new or updated vehicle models in the nation by the end of 2011 to retain its lead in the world's biggest auto market, Bloomberg reported this week.

GM said the models to be launched in China will include the Chevrolet Volt plug-in car in 2011. The company will add more hybrids, plug-ins and electric vehicles in the next five years and increase the use of turbo chargers, direct-injection systems and improved aerodynamics to improve fuel efficiency.
