BAIC to produce all-electric C70, C30 models next year

Shanghai, June 7 (Gasgoo.com) Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co (BAIC) will focus on the electric vehicles in the sector of new energy vehicles, and on top of the Midi model, it will mass-produce the all-electric C73 and C30 models next year.

By 2015, the company expects the output of its new energy vehicles to reach 150,000 units and that of the key components to reach more than 320,000 sets, Lin Yi, vice-president of Beijing Automobile Research Institute, said last week in an interview.

Jiangling Motors May sales up 68% to 15,7000 vehicles

Shanghai, June 7 (Gasgoo.com) Jiangling Motors Co, a commercial van partner of Ford Motor, announced last week that its vehicles sales in May grew 68.22% from a year earlier to 15,700 units, media reported.

The company, based in east China's Jiangxi province, produced 16,400 vehicles last month, an increase of 73.03% over May 2009, the company said in a statement on Wednesday evening.

Passenger car sales growth hits 13-month low in May

Shanghai, June 8 (Gasgoo.com) China's passenger vehicle sales in May continued the monthly decline. Last month 1 million cars, MPVs, SUVs and minivans were sold in the Chinese market, up 23.2% from a year earlier, the lowest growth rate in the past 13 months, China Daily reported today, citing an industry group.

The passenger vehicle sales volume in May was down 5.9% from April, and this is the third monthly sales decline this year in China's passenger vehicle segment, according to the China Passenger Car Association. January sales hit 1.31 million, up 111% year on year.

Volvo China sales soar by 108% y/y in Jan-May

Shanghai, June 8 (Gasgoo.com) The U.S. auto market showed signs of recovery in May, with several major car brands posting sales increase from a year earlier. However, sales of Volvo declined 16.5% year on year. On the contrary, China's auto sales in May continued to decrease from April figures, while the Volvo sales in China soared by 108% in January-May 2010, more than double its last year's sales.

Data shows that Volvo sales in the U.S. in May came to 4,659 units, down 16.5% from the same period of last year, when Volvo sales fell below 330,000. Nevertheless, its sales surged by 108% in China, achieving record success during the period from January to May 2010. China has now become Volvo's fourth largest market in the world.

Honda to adjust China production plan after strike loss

Shanghai, June 9 (Gasgoo.com) Despite the fact that all Honda Motor's factories in China have gradually gone back to normal since last Thursday, the strike has caused the automaker loss of nearly 3 billion yuan ($439 million) in sales and Honda now has to adjust the production plan for China, media reported lately.

Honda has previously planned to raise its output and sales in China this year to about 630,000 units, of which Guangzhou Honda and Dongfeng Honda account for 386,000 units and 240,000 units respectively. However, industry insiders estimate that the ten-day-strike at a parts plant has reduced output of at least 15,000-18,000 units at car factories of both the joint ventures.

China auto sales up 53% to 7.5 mln units in Jan-May

Shanghai, June 9 (Gasgoo.com) In the first five months of the year, vehicle sales in the Chinese market grew 53.25% from a year earlier to exceed 7.5 million units, Xinhua News reported yesterday, citing an industry association.

China's auto sales in May rose 28.35% from a year earlier to 1.44 million units, but the figure was down 7.5% from the April level, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers said yesterday in a statement. The growth in May sales notched the slowest pace over the past 13 months.

Shanghai VW puts Guangdong factory project on hold

Shanghai, June 10 (Gasgoo.com) "In terms of setting up a factory in Guangdong, we are still in the middle of discussion. As for expanding production capacity, we haven't decided yet. So we can't tell you whether it is in Guangdong or Nanjing," A top official from Shanghai VW revealed in an interview.

Chery Auto sales in May up 43%, exports up 259%

Shanghai, June 10 (Gasgoo.com) Chery Auto, the biggest Chinese-brand carmaker, said this week that its sales in May increased 43% from a year earlier to 52,410 vehicles, and the company posted strong growth in exports, media reported.

In the first five months of the year, Chery Auto sold 268,400 vehicles, a sales figure which posts a big challenge for the company to achieve its target of selling 700,000 to 900,000 vehicles this year. Its sales in April came to 52,379 vehicles.

China auto export up 71% to 190,900 units in Jan-May

Shanghai, June 11 (Gasgoo.com) With the global economy slowly rebounding from the worst recession, China auto export has gradually seen a growth in the first five months of this year.

China exported 47,100 vehicles in May, up 18.45% month on month and up 95.55% year on year. In the period from January to May 2010, 190,900 vehicles were exported, an increase of 71.01% from a year earlier, according to data released by China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) on June 8.

JAC finalizing truck JV deal with Caterpillar, Navistar

Shanghai, June 11 (Gasgoo.com) Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Co. (JAC) is finalizing a 4 billion yuan ($586 million) truck and engine joint venture deal with construction and mining equipment manufacturer Caterpillar Inc. and truck maker Navistar International Corp., Reuters reported today.

Initial investment in the Caterpillar/Navistar China project will be twice the previously disclosed 2 billion yuan, as Jianghuai Auto and Navistar are also planning a separate 50-50 joint venture for diesel engines. "The engine venture is meant to be a supplier for the truck project," a source said.
