Ranking of China's top 10 automakers by January-October sales

Shanghai November 15 (Gasgoo.com) The latest data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers showed that Chinese automakers sold approximately 1.54 million vehicles in October, up 1.16% month on month and 25.47% year on year, respectively, sina.com reported Tuesday.

In January-October 2010, China's domestic automakers reported sales of 14.68 million units, an increase of 1.03 million units compared with last year's total.

Several Hyundai models heading to China in 2011

Shanghai November 15 (Gasgoo.com) Beijing Hyundai, Hyundai Motor's Chinese venture with Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Corp (BAIC), will import next-generation Sonata and several other Hyundai models to China next year, the Beijing Times reported Monday.

The new Sonata YF, targeted at the mid- and high-end market, is the most successful model Hyundai Motor has ever sold in the European market, and expected to be sold for less than 170,000 yuan ($25,000) in the Chinese market.

VW plans electric-vehicle production in China after three years

Shanghai November 16 (Gasgoo.com) Volkswagen AG is planning local production of its electric vehicles in China in 2013 or 2014, Yang Meihong, vice president of Volkswagen Group China, said at the launching ceremony of the "China Low-Carbon Corporation Initiative" held on Nov 12 in Beijing, China Securities Journal reported Tuesday.

The German automaker's two local ventures, separately built with SAIC Motor Corp Ltd (SAIC) and First Automobile Works (FAW), will undertake production of the EVs, according to Yang.

Jaguar expands dealer network in China

Shanghai November 16 (Gasgoo.com) Jaguar China recently announced it will open two more dealerships in Shanghai and Beijing, in an effort to create a comprehensive dealership network in China, the National business daily reported Tuesday.

In addition, the British luxury-car brand plans to establish collaborative service networks in all major cities in the East China region, and will continue talks with various premium-car brands in the country on possible cooperation.

New Audi A6 to be built in China in 2012

Shanghai November 17 (Gasgoo.com) The 2012 Audi A6 has undergone a big change underneath, moving from the Volkswagen Group's C platform to Audi's own modular aluminum chassis, and is expected to be produced at FAW-Volkswagen in 2012 after being stretched, Xinhua news agency reported Wednesday.

The new Audi A6 is more aesthetic and sporty as to design, compared to the existing version, and scheduled to make its debut at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show this month.

Toyota sets up R&D center in China

Shanghai November 17 (Gasgoo.com) Toyota Motor Corp announced today that it has set up a wholly-owned research and development (R&D) center in Changshu, east China's Jiangsu province, according to sohu.com.

The Japanese automaker's new R&D unit, Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (China) Co., Ltd. (TMEC), is located in the Changshu Southeast Economic Development Zone, and will begin partial operations next spring.

SAIC's $1.5 bln private placement of A-shares approved

Shanghai November 18 (Gasgoo.com) SAIC Motor (SHA:600104) announced Tuesday it has received approval from the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission for its private placement of A-shares, the Beijing Times reported Thursday.

In late June, the company released a statement saying that it plans to issue no more than 900 million A-shares and raise at most 10 billion yuan ($1.5 billion) in a private placement of new shares. The shares will be priced at a minimum of 11.47 yuan ($1.73) each.

Guangzhou Auto, Mitsubishi to form new JV next June

Shanghai November 18 (Gasgoo.com) One week after signing the memorandum of understanding (MOU) to establish a 50-50 joint venture in China, Guangzhou Automobile Group and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation already made plans to set up the new joint venture in June 2011 and start production of new models in July 2012, the Beijing Times reported Thursday, citing a Mitsubishi insider.

The new joint venture, which has a projected production capacity of 250,000 vehicles per year that the two automakers intend to achieve in five years, will be formed in Changsha, south China's Hunan Province.

Foton Motor makes foray into sedan market

Shanghai November 19 (Gasgoo.com) Following its great success with commercial vehicles worldwide, Beiqi Foton Motor Co., Ltd. now plans to branch into the sedan segment, aiming to launch its first model in 2013, bitauto.com reported Friday, citing Foton brand director Zhang Bin.

Foton Motor, a subsidiary of Beijing Automobile Group Co., Ltd., will change its logo completely starting early next year to coordinate with the adjustment to its product planning.

84.6% Chinese favor diesel vehicles: survey

Shanghai November 19 (Gasgoo.com) A survey of promoting diesel passenger vehicles in China conducted by official legal Web site, bitauo.com, among 2,830 Chinese netizens, showed that only 15.4% of Chinese disagree with the initiative.

The majority of netizens giving their assent to the popularization of diesel-engined passenger vehicles is because they attach more importance to diesel vehicles' advantage of low fuel consumption. According to the survey, 71.7% of netizens believe diesel vehicles are more fuel-efficient than gasoline vehicles; 22.1% of them think the former is more powerful than the latter.
