Gasgoo.com (Shanghai June 11) - New national standards for child restraint systems in automobiles will officially come into effect on July 1, Beijing News reported today. According to a statement made by relevant departments, following the introduction of the new standards, uncertified child safety seats will eventually be eliminated from the market. However, the new policies still require the active support of the Ministry of Transport and other government bodies. Many in the industry have proposed that successfully implementing the new standards will be a long-term process.

The upcoming standards have reportedly been modeled on similar policies in the European Union. They are essentially identical to the world's strictest standards. Kong Jun, assistant dean of the School of Automotive Engineering's Electric Vehicle Research Institute at the Wuhan University of Technology, was one of the experts invited to help decide on the standards. He commented that they will play a major role in improving the overall quality and safety of child safety seats in the country.

"The most effective outcome of the new policies is that [government departments] have begun inspecting and halting manufacture of [unsafe child seats]," Goodbaby International Vice President Zhu Yunlong noted. "Although the new standards don't carry any strong legal implications, they are a still a big step forward," he added.

Several nations, including the US, Canada, Germany, the UK, Sweden, Singapore and South Korea, have strict legal standards governing the manufacture and use of child safety seats.
