Gasgoo.com (Shanghai May 31) - The China Automotive Technology & Research Center, the Society of Automotive Engineers of China and similar organizations will be meeting in early September to discuss the direction the Chinese automobile industry is to take, Beijing Business Today reported today. The summit, the International Forum (TEDA) on Chinese Automotive Industry Development, will include government leaders, automotive experts and enterprise executives discussing the future of cars in China.
As the Chinese industry slows down after years of explosive growth, one of the major topics of discussion is the continual phasing out of government policies, including the 3,000 yuan subsidy offered for energy efficient vehicles. Zhao Hang, head of the China Automotive Technology & Research Center, said the policy had not helped spurred sales of energy efficient cars.
"Although stimulation policies have been phased out of the market quite quickly, the energy efficiency subsidies have still not been removed," Mr. Zhao said. He added that if the subsidies can't help boost sales of energy efficient carts, there is no reason for the policy to remain in place. Mr. Zhao's opinion is reportedly shared by many other experts, some of which have supported separating subsidies according to vehicle class.
