Hunan is stepping up efforts for the sustainable development of its auto industry, and expects its auto industry output value to reach RMB 30 billion by the end of the 12th five-year plan (2011-2015).

At a recent industry meeting, Chen Zaoxiong, vice governor of Hunan, said that auto makers in the province should attach more importance to the technological upgrade, product innovation and training of skilled workers in the future to keep the strong and sustainable growth of the industry.

By the end of 2015, Hunan will have an annual capacity of 2 million vehicles, which will make it the seventh- largest auto manufacturing base in China, according to the provincial government's plan.

Last year, BYD<1211>, the largest rechargeable battery maker and an auto maker in China, agreed to take over Midea Coach Manuafacturing Co Ltd and plans to turn it into BYD's electric bus and passenger vehicle production base in Changsha, capital city of Hunan.
