The expansion project was signed in August 2022 with a total investment of 350 million yuan, and broke ground in March 2024. Positioned as Autoliv China's flagship airbag plant, it houses the company's largest fully automated high-bay storage system in the country. By integrating world-class production and logistics equipment and deeply embedding IoT and automation technologies, it lifts both supply-chain responsiveness and operating efficiency.
More notably, the site is equipped with Autoliv's largest smart high-bay warehouse globally — a core feature that reflects the Chinese team's technical autonomy and lead role in innovation.

The expansion marks the latest step in Autoliv's deeper push in China. Since entering the market in 1989, the company has built a broad local network. Its China headquarters, main technical center and several core manufacturing sites are all in Shanghai's Jiading district. In recent years, Autoliv has stepped up investment in China: alongside the Jiading build-out, it has advanced smart-factory upgrades in Hefei and Guangzhou, and in 2025 it set up its second R&D center in Wuhan.
At the ceremony, Sun Yi, president of Autoliv China, said, "We will use this as a platform to put our 'In China, for the world' strategy into practice, bringing local smart-manufacturing know-how to our global network." He added that the company will keep focusing on innovation in safety products and work with local partners to drive industry upgrades.
With Phase II at Jiading now in production, Autoliv's capacity and supply-chain resilience in China get another lift. The smart, greener plant also offers a new reference point for manufacturing in automotive safety systems.
