Shanghai, April 28 (Gasgoo.com) Beijing city, the Chinese capital, will have 500 electric taxis in service by the end of this year, local automaker Beiqi Foton Motor recently said, Xinhua News reported.
The electric taxis will include Foton's electric Midi model, which can run 200 kilometers after being fully charged, a senior executive of the auto company, said on Saturday at the 2010 Beijing auto show (Auto China 2010).
Beiqi Foton, a subsidiary of Beijing Auto (BAIC) and China's largest commercial vehicle producer in terms of sales last year, is expanding into the passenger car sector. The clean-energy cars would account for 30% of the company's total output in future.
Zotye Holding Group, an automaker in Zhejiang province, plans to bring 100 electric cars to the Beijing market, initially for rental. The Zotye Lerio has got the first license plate for an all-electric car in Beijing, the company said at the Beijing show.
Beijing is one of the 13 pilot cities listed by the Chinese government last year for new-energy vehicle operation, mainly in public transportation and postal service. China may introduce subsidy and other incentives for electric cars by July.
