Gasgoo.com (Shanghai March 16) - Twenty-two of Beijing's government departments revealed that they will be replacing government-use vehicles, the Beijing News reported today. The total amount spent on replacing the vehicles will cost over 40 million yuan ($6.07m). The news comes as 58 of Beijing government departments have publicly unveiled their budgets.

When analyzing the information, it is important to note that government vehicles are not strictly limited to sedans and other cars, but also include business and enforcement vehicles. Also important to remember is that the 40 million yuan only account for replacement of vehicles and does not include maintenance and other related fees.

In line with the municipal government's request, departments will try to minimize the amount spent on replacing vehicles, in order to maintain economic independence. In theory, vehicle replacements are not newly purchased.

Wang Xixin, lecturer at Peking University Law School and head of its public research center, said that it is difficult to estimate the number of vehicles replaced solely by the announced costs. Mr. Wang said that it would be more accurate to judge if the amount of vehicle inventory was announced.
