Shanghai, March 29 (Gasgoo.com)  Sources said “China's Consumer Protection Law” to be enforced by the southeast Zhejiang province” may or will force Toyota to compensate at least 10% of the Chinese RAV4 owners for the vehicle recall.

It said Toyota has recalled 75,000 RAV4 vehicles in China since January this year, with 10% in Zhejiang province.

Zhejiang Industry and Commerce Bureau and Zhejiang Consumer Protection Committee have put forward five requirements: Firstly, make a clear timetable for the recall and speed up the procedure. Secondly, provide consumers with on-site services. Thirdly, during the maintenance, a same-model vehicle should be provided for use. Fourthly, if vehicles have not been delivered, reservation cancellation should be allowed, and refund fully. Fifthly, for the owners who have returned the vehicles themselves, transport subsidies, subsidies for tardiness at work and certain financial compensation should be given. The relevant source revealed Toyota has accepted four of the requirements during the negotiation.

For the whole country, this local policy by the government of the Zhejiang province serves as a good reference, which has taken a major step in compensation for the impact caused by Toyota's recall of vehicles.
