Chrysler recalls more than 8,000 new SUVs in Canada

Chrysler flagged more than 8,000 SUVs in Canada on Tuesday as part of a North American-wide recall to correct an engine stall problem that has caused one accident in the U.S.

Chrysler Group, a unit of DaimlerChrysler AG, said 3,800 2007 Jeep Wranglers and 5,000 2007 Dodge Nitro sport utility vehicles are being recalled to allow dealers to reprogram a power module to remove the potential for a brief interruption of electrical power to the instrument panel and the engine.

The automaker told CBC that repairs will be made at no cost to the consumer.

In the United States, an additional 80,000 new Wranglers and Nitros were recalled on Tuesday for the same problem. The recall comes on the heels of a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation into the Wrangler in May, after it received reports of engines stalling.

One accident has been linked to the issue in the U.S., although no injuries have been reported either in Canada or the U.S., the company said.
