Honda Motor Co. is recalling 197,000 Accord and 117,000 Civic sedans as well as 69,000 Element sport-utility vehicles from the 2003 and 2004 model years in the U.S. to fix a potential problem that could allow a driver to remove the key when the car is in gear and could lead to a car rolling away.

Honda has received several complaints and reports of a small number accidents and one injury from the problem, the company said in a statement.

The ignition interlock mechanism can be damaged or worn during use and it may become possible to remove the ignition key when the shift lever is not in park. If a key is removed and the parking brake isn't set, the vehicle could roll away and a crash could occur, the company said.
