Iran Daily - About 1.75 million vehicles will roll off production lines in the current Iranian year (started March 21), said the caretaker of Industries and Mines Ministry.
Addressing a gathering of managers from the industries and mines sector, Mehdi Ghazanfari added 110 types of vehicles will be manufactured by yearend.
He noted that creating brands and designing automobile platforms are the subsequent steps to be taken by those involved in this industry, Mehr News Agency reported.
"About 20 percent of the total value-added of domestic industries pertains to auto-manufacturing sector which also accounts for 3.7 percent of gross domestic product of the country," he noted.
The official stated that the number of vehicles produced in the past 6 years is 1.3 times higher than that of the past 42 years, adding improving the quality of products and paying special attention to exports are the main prerequisites for achieving the objective of producing 3 million vehicles set by Vision 2021.
Referring to the visit by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei to auto-manufacturing industries, he said that the Leader placed special emphasis on improving the quality of products and achieving self-sufficiency in the sector.
Ghazanfari noted that special attention to research and technological development, efforts to augment exports, amendments to commercial policies and proper management are among the objectives which should be seriously pursued by officials.
He noted that manufacturing 50 percent of light national brand vehicles, supplying $25 billion worth of spare parts for domestically produced cars and exporting $6 billion worth of spare parts are among the Vision 2021 objectives which can be achieved.
