Gasgoo Munich- On February 9, 2026, China's State Administration for Market Regulation announced that NIO has filed a voluntary recall plan for certain vehicles affected by software issues.

The recall covers 246,229 units of the ES8, ES6, and EC6 models produced between March 16, 2018, and January 16, 2023. The issue stems from a potential defect in the underlying software under specific conditions, which could cause the instrument cluster and central control screen to go black temporarily. During such outages, critical driving information and functions—such as speed, fault warnings, and defogging—would fail to display or operate, posing a safety risk.
NIO's solution will be delivered primarily through over-the-air (OTA) technology. The company will push a free software update targeting version Aspen 3.5.6 or Alder 2.1.0 and above to vehicles within the recall scope. For the few units that cannot be updated remotely, NIO service centers will proactively contact users to arrange offline repairs. Notably, vehicles already running the fixed versions require no further action.
This large-scale OTA recall underscores how tightly software stability is tied to vehicle safety in the era of smart EVs. While NIO's ability to execute remote fixes highlights its technical prowess, ensuring the reliability of complex electronic and electrical architectures remains a common challenge for the entire industry.
