
Gasgoo.com (Shanghai August 10) - A total of 42,560 Fords were sold in China over the last month, Gasgoo.com (Chinese) reported today. The sales figure represents year-on-year growth of 32 percent for the US manufacturing giant. 319,882 Fords have been sold in the country from January to July, four percent more than the amount sold in the first seven months of 2011.
26,306 of Ford's sales last month came from the Changan Ford Mazda joint venture, while the 15,602 units came from its cooperation with Jiangling Motors.
Passenger automobiles, including imports, accounted for 27,498 of all Fords sold in July, a jump of over 50 percent from the previous year. A large contribution to Ford's sales came from the New Focus (pictured above), which brought 11,000 new orders last month. Sales of the Mondeo totaled 4,730 units last month, growing 63 percent from July 2011.
Meanwhile, Ford was able to take advantage of the rising popularity of SUVs in China, with orders of the Edge (pictured below) over the first seven months of the year growing 73 percent from last year. The 2.0 L EcoBoost version of the Edge is already available on the Chinese market. EcoBoost technology links a turbocharged gasoline engine with twin independent variable cam timing technology, reducing fuel consumption by 20 percent and carbon dioxide emissions by 15 percent.
