Shanghai October 19 (Gasgoo.com) SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile Co., General Motors' mini commercial vehicle joint venture in China with SAIC Motor and Liuzhou Wuling Automobile, is set to launch its first self-developed sedan, Baojun, on November 18, 2010. The company is now establishing its passenger vehicle system in full swing in order to take the lead in grasping market opportunities.

Among the three to-be-launched own brand vehicles announced by joint ventures, the Baojun car will be the first to go on sale in the Chinese market, followed by Dongfen Nissan's Qichen that is likely to roll off the production line at the end of this year. While Guangzhou Honda may roll out its self-developed Linian car in early next year.

The Baojun car has independent intellectual property rights, and is being built in the joint venture's production base in Liuzhou in accordance with General Motors's mature modes of R&D and assembly, relevant sources from SAIC-GM-Wuling said, adding that the car meets all strict standards reached by same-class GM cars.

SAIC-GM-Wuling launched an investment project in August this year. About 300 dealers among over 500s have shown a strong interest in the Baojun car, saying they are willing to hold further talks on sales of the car.

According to previous reports, the first Baojun car, a compact sedan currently called GP50, will share a platform with Buick Excelle from SAIC-GM.
