Shanghai September 21 (Gasgoo.com) SAIC Motor Corp plans to sell 20,000 new energy vehicles, including both all-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicle in China by 2012, its vice president Xiao Guopu said in a global automotive forum under the theme of "Looking Forward to a 'Green' Future" on the afternoon of September 16, The Beijing Times reported Wednesday.
"We need to build new energy vehicle industrial base now to get well-prepared for a large scale development in the future," Xiao said. SAIC will aim at electric vehicle industrialization, speed up industrialization of hybrid and electric vehicles, as well as improve fuel cell R&D, upgrade and trial operation.
SAIC will put into production a medium-sized hybrid sedan this year, and launch the Roewe 550 plugin sedan and a self-developed all-electric car to the domestic market in 2012. The company will make a total of 20,000 new energy vehicles during 2010-2012.
The Chinese automaker has provided 1,100 new energy vehicles for the Shanghai World Expo 2010, including pure electric, hybrid and fuel cell vehicle, electric vehicle using ultracapacitors and other type of EVs. All the vehicles have so far done an excellent job on the trial run, Xiao said.
