
Gasgoo.com (Shanghai September 11) - Shanghai Volkswagen sold a total of 105,282 vehicles in August, Gasgoo.com (Chinese) reported today, citing the joint venture's recently released performance review. The figure is 10.5 percent higher than the amount Shanghai VW sold last August. The JV has sold a total of 836,074 vehicles over the first eight months of the year.
VW branded vehicles accounted for 86,565 of the joint venture's total sales in August. The New Lavida (pictured above), which made its Chinese market debut on August 19, helped the Lavida family in attaining monthly sales of 20,239 vehicles. Over 800,000 Lavidas have been sold in China since the compact's debut in 2008. Sales of the Polo family have also grown steadily last month, with a total of 14,707 Polos sold. The New Polo alone brought in 12,866 orders during the month. August sales of the New Passat (pictured below) totaled 16,444 units. Tiguan SUV and New Touran minivan sales totaled 13,788 units and 3,639 units, respectively.
Skoda vehicle sales last month totaled 18,717 units, growing 2.2 percent from August 2011. The brand's flagship model, the Octavia, brought in 11,215 new orders over the month. Over 500,000 Octavias have been sold in China in its five years on the market. August sales of the Superb midsize and Fabia subcompact totaled 3,706 units and 3,796 units, respectively.
