Shanghai VW sells over 75000 Volkswagens in China in June

Gasgoo.com (Shanghai July 9) - Shanghai Volkswagen sold a total of 75,806 Volkswagens last month, Gasgoo.com (Chinese) reported today. The sales figure is 6.6 percent higher than the number of VWs the joint venture sold last June. A total of 480,532 Shanghai VW Volkswagens have been sold in the first six months of 2012.

Despite respectable sales of 13,918 units last month, the New Passat (pictured above) has yet to make significant inroads in the midsize segment, with its total market share around 11 percent. Over 100,000 Passats have been sold since the beginning of the year.

The old Lavida compact continued to perform strongly, with a total of 110,577 units sold during the first half of the year. Cumulative sales of the car are inching ever closer to the 800,000 barrier.

Meanwhile, in the ever competitive subcompact segment, sales of Polo models last month reached 13,664 units, growing 45 percent from last June. Monthly sales of the new Polo 6 (pictured below) totaled 8,009 units. From January to June, the Polo series has brought in a total of 85,209 orders for Shanghai VW.

Finally, sales of the Tiguan urban SUV grew over 37 percent last month, finishing at 13,103 units. 76,312 Tiguans have been sold in the first six months of the year.
